Miles was a dating app match who lived in a hot spot of town. He was well into his thirties and asked me out for drinks near his apartment. It was winter so it was better to stay local. We met at the bar and he was attractive, social, and engaging. Why is he single? After a fun evening of drinks and apps we left saying, “let’s do this again soon.”
It took a while for Miles and I to connect again. He was a male nurse and worked long shifts, so our schedules were not aligning. Miles also mentioned that seasonal depression was getting in the way of him going out. One day he invited me to this place. When I got there, Miles made me his signature cocktail but said he wasn’t having one. He wasn’t the fun guy I went out with a few weeks ago. He watched sports on the TV as I drank the mixed drink that he made me with San Pellegrino blood orange soda. Tasty, but this wasn’t going anywhere.
Later that year when I was dating Bruce, I saw Miles out getting brunch with two girls. I texted my friend immediately and she responded, “hahahaha omg that is what happens when you date 1000 men!! 😂” But that’s not even what went through my mind, I was thinking, the girls keep getting skinnier and skinnier in Southie. Either summertime cleared up Miles’ seasonal depression, or it was those two young girls.
